28-May-2008: Congratulations to Carl Cranor for winning the Academic Senate Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes "exceptional effort and achievement in service to the UCR Campus"! Carl was also chosen as this year’s Honors Program Professor of the Year for his Honors discussion section of LWSO100.
20-May-2008: The family of the late Oliver Johnson, professor of philosophy emeritus at UCR, has endowed a scholarship to enable a graduating senior from UCR to pursue graduate studies in philosophy.
23-Apr-2008: Congratulations to Robert Sanchez for winning the 2008 Barricelli Memorial Grant!
10-Apr-2008: Maudemarie Clark, who is currently Carleton Professor of Philosophy at Colgate University and an eminent Nietzsche scholar, has accepted a senior offer from the UCR Philosophy Department! (Read more about this hire.)
09-Apr-2008: Agnieszka Jaworska, who is currently Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Stanford University, has accepted a tenured offer from the UCR Philosophy Department!
08-Apr-2008: John Perry, a distinguished philosopher of language and mind, has agreed to join the Philosophy Department, on a half-time basis, as a part of UCR's Eminent Scholars Program!
03-Mar-2008: Amy MacArthur, who wrote her dissertation under the supervision of Andy Reath on Kant's account of the duty of self-knowledge, has accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.
15-Feb-2008: John Fischer has been chosen to deliver the 2008 Hourani Lectures, which are awarded every two years to a philosopher working in either ethics or Islamic philosophy. Previous Hourani lecturers have been Jeff McMahan, Anthony Appiah, Martha Nussbaum, Onora O'Neill, and Shelly Kagan.
18-Jan-2008: Georgia Warnke has published a new book with Cambridge University Press: After Identity: Rethinking Race, Sex and Gender. (Update: On April 23rd, there was a reception held at the Dean’s patio to celebrate the book’s publication.)
