UCR Philosophy Department News—2010
5-Dec-10: Congratulations to Chris Franklin and his wife, Rubie, on their new baby!
10-Apr-10: More congratulations to Joe Cressotti! In addition to his DAAD Fellowship to Munich, Joe has also won a UCR Dissertation-Year Fellowship, which the Graduate Dean has been kind enough to allow Joe to have along with his DAAD Fellowship. Congratulations to Joe for another impressive accomplishment!
05-Apr-10: Please mark your calendars for John Fischer’s CHASS Distinguished Research Lecture, to be held on Wednesday, May 12th at 3:30 pm in INTS 1113. In announcing that John had received the Distinguished Research Lecturer Award, the college recognized what we already knew—that John’s “impressive body of writings have established him as an internationally renowned scholar whose books and writings have shaped modern studies of free will and moral responsiblity.” Please join us as we honor John for his contributions to our discipline.
22-Mar-10: Congratulations to Justin White, who has been selected to participate in a Summer Seminar on Mormon Theology at Brigham Young University. This is a highly selective program, and the competition this year was very fierce.
16-Mar-10: Congratulations to Patrick Todd! He has received the Center for Philosophy of Religion Visiting Graduate Student Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame for 2010–11. He will thus be in residence at Notre Dame next academic year. This is the sole graduate fellowship at the Center for Philosophy of Religion, and it is highly sought-after. Also, Patrick has been selected to participate in the Templeton Foundation-sponsored 2010 St. Thomas University Summer Seminar in Philosophical Theology in St. Paul, MN. He will be joined there by our alumnus, Neal Tognazzini. Kudos to both Neal and Patrick; there were close to 200 applications for twenty slots. Finally, Patrick has been selected to participate in Rutgers’ annual Metaphysical Mayhem Program—another very prestigious award. Congratulations to Patrick (and Neal)!
12-Mar-10: The new application deadline for the Harrah Prize in Applied Philosophy is Friday, April 9th, 2010.
11-Mar-10: Congratulations to Joe Cressotti, who has won a DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) Research Grant! He will be studying at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet in Munich.
19-Jan-10: We are now accepting applications for both the Harrah Prize in Applied Philosophy and the Oliver A. Johnson Essay Award. The Oliver Johnson award ($100) is for undergraduates only, but the Harrah Prize (usually $500) is for both undergraduates and graduate students.
